Salisbury IPMS Annual Show
Saturday 3rd June 2006

Venue

As with last year's event, the show was held at the Wyvern College, Laverstock, just on the outskirts of Salisbury in Wiltshire. It is housed in the sports hall attached to one side of the college and although limited in size, it does have the benefit of a large adjacent car park that is free. Every year IPMS Salisbury seems to get good weather for their show and this year was no exception, it was stunning!

Told you the weather was good, clear blue skies at 9am!

One side of the car park...

... and here is the other. As you can see it was pretty busy by around midday.

I have been going to this show for a number of years now, and make the 280+ mile round trip in a couple of hours each way. The show is always worth attending, and is always over-subscribed. The limited size of the venue may be seen by many as a restricting feature, but the organisers have to balance that against the income and the likely costs of moving to a larger venue. Sadly in deepest Wiltshire the number of potential venues is limited, and expensive, so I suspect the event will remain here for the foreseeable future.
And before you ask, yes there was still had no door on the toilets!

There was a good mix of traders again this year and once again the central area was put aside to the club stands. The organisers had the whole set-up running smoothly and the refreshments stand, run by the host club, was very good so that the whole event had its usual 'friendly' feel to it.

What follows is my own selection of images from the show and the competition area, so please excuse if I have missed an 'important' model, I was just photographed what caught my eye.

A detailed 1:72 Airfix Lightning in the competition area

This B-17G was made from the old Monogram kit in 1:48 and was very colourful

A 1:72 Bristol F.2b Fighter done up in post-war Polish Air Force colours

Clean and simple, this Do 335A-1 we presume was made from the Dragon 1:72 kit?

Someone went to town on this 1:32 Hasegawa F-104.

Could have sworn I saw this one in the competition last year as well, or was it in 1:72 that time?

This BE.2c was made from the old Formaplane 1:72 vac-form kit.

Someone had fun building and detailing the old Airfix 1:24 Hurricane!

Another model I am sure I have come across before, nonetheless this Jaguar T.2 in 1:48 was very effective
And the interior was well done. Needs to be 'raspberry ripple' in my mind though!

Well-known aviation historian and modeller Malcolm Lowe made this Mirage 2000-5C, in 1:144 no less!

Built from the Classic Airframes 1:48 revised tooling kit, the Whirlwind always looks good in any scale.

My thanks to everyone at IPMS Salisbury for putting on yet another excellent event this year. For more details of the club or of next year's event contact Peter A. James on 01980 862403 or e-mail peter@toggie.freeserve.co.uk
